Urethra & Reconstructive Urology
Meatal Stenosis
Narrowing of the urethral opening at the tip of the penis, causing a deflected, fine or spraying stream.
Overview
Meatal stenosis may be congenital or follow inflammation, circumcision or minor trauma. It is usually simple to correct with a small procedure (meatotomy or meatoplasty) when it causes symptoms.
Common symptoms
- Fine, upward-deflected or spraying stream
- Prolonged urination time
- Occasionally pain or recurrent infections
When to see a urologist
A visibly narrowed opening with a troublesome stream should be examined.
