Kidney & Urinary Tract
Urinary Frequency
Needing to pass urine more often than usual during the day. It has many possible causes, most of them treatable.
Overview
Frequency can result from infection, an overactive bladder, diabetes, excessive fluid or caffeine intake, prostate enlargement in men, or stones. A bladder diary and simple tests usually point to the cause.
Common symptoms
- Passing urine very often through the day
- Small volumes each time
- Sometimes associated urgency or night-time urination
When to see a urologist
Frequency that persists, disturbs daily life, or comes with pain, blood or fever should be evaluated.
