A structured assessment — history, examination, semen analysis and selected hormone tests — to find treatable causes.

01What is it?

Evaluation identifies factors affecting sperm production or delivery: varicocele, hormonal imbalance, obstruction, infection, genetic factors or lifestyle contributors.

02When is treatment considered?

After 12 months of trying to conceive (6 months if the female partner is over 35), or sooner with known risk factors.

03Available treatment options

Both partners are usually evaluated in parallel — it is more efficient and fair.

04What does the procedure involve?

History and examination, at least one semen analysis after 2–7 days of abstinence, and hormone or genetic tests and scrotal ultrasound when indicated.

05Expected recovery

Not applicable — no procedure for the basic evaluation.
